READ & LISTEN

Read:

Different schools give different kinds of grades.  Grades are one way teachers communicate with students about their work and learning.

Elementary School

In elementary school, teachers give grades to tell parents about their child's learning (what the student knows about reading, writing, math, etc.) and their behavior (how the child works with other children, follows school rules, etc.).

In elementary, middle, and high school, students receive a report card three (3) or four (4) times each year.  Parents should read the report card carefully and talk with their child about the grades.  Parents can talk to the teacher about their children's grades.

In elementary school, teachers often give grades with numbers from 1 to 4.  Some schools use words instead of numbers for the grades.
