Read:

Symptoms are aches and pains you have when you are sick or have something wrong.  You can have the same symptoms for many different problems.  You and your friend might both have a runny nose and a cough.  You could have allergies and she could have a cold.

Sometimes nurses, doctors or other people will ask you how bad the aches and pains are.  They will say, "On a scale of 1-10, how bad does it hurt?"  Each number, one (1) through ten (10), represents how much it hurts.  One (1) is the least amount of pain, and ten (10) is the worst!  Look at the examples below to learn about the pain scale and symptoms.

Pain Scale 1-10
0 No pain at all.
1-3 Mild or light aches or pain.
4-6 Medium pain.
7-9 Bad pain with much discomfort.
10 Extreme pain.

Example:

Symptom: My tooth hurts a lot.

Pain Scale: The pain is about an eight (8).

Problem: I have a toothache.
