Read:

Healthy foods have a good balance of nutrients.  The healthiest foods are often called whole foods.  These foods usually do not come in bags, cans, or boxes.  These foods are fresh.  Fresh meat, vegetables, and fruits are examples of healthy foods.  However, there are many foods that we consume that are manufactured in bags, cans, and boxes.  These foods have nutrition labels.  It is important to know what information to look for on these labels in order to have a healthy diet and lifestyle.  Study the the nutrition label below to learn more about the parts of a nutrition label:

  • serving size, servings per container
  • calories
  • fat, cholesterol, sodium
  • carbohydrates (carbs) – fiber, sugars
  • protein
  • nutrients – vitamins, minerals
  • the % daily value (the recommended amounts for the average person)
