Read:
Percent is a word we use in math to talk about parts of a whole. The "cent" in "percent" means 100 (one hundred).
100% (one hundred percent) means all of something -- the whole thing or whole group.
If there are 100 parts, 100% means all of the parts.

50% means 50 parts. 50% is the same as half.

These charts show what 40% looks like in different ways. The images are different, but the size or amount that they show is the same. We can see that 40% is a little bit less than 50%. It is a little bit less than half.
