Audience ideas for Essay 3
- Due No Due Date
- Points 10
- Submitting a text entry box or a website url
The first challenge for the Wikipedia Essay will be defining the audience you wish to persuade about Wikipedia's merits, or lack thereof. This is a bit more complicated than it might at first seem.
After refreshing your memory of the essay assignment details, it might also be helpful to return to the Author, Audience, Purpose component in Module 1.
Create a list here of at least 3 potential groups that you appeal to you as target audiences. More is fine!
For EACH audience idea, tell me:
- your definition of the group (ex., "opera singers")
- 1-2 sentences about the ways you think Wikipedia might or might not be useful to this group (ex., Opera singers might use Wikipedia to find out history about their art, as well as detailed biographies about famous singers and composers. If they want to find detailed instruction for how to improve their craft, however, they would be better served by using other sources.)
- 1-2 sentences about the connection you have to this group. Why should this group trust what you have to recommend to them? (ex. I am a formally trained opera singer and also have great experience using Wikipedia and other online resources on this topic.) I'm not really an opera singer, sadly, but some of you may be!
Your submission will contain a total of 9 answers (3 for each audience group idea).
