8:30-10:30am Student Center Building 11, Presented by Ha Nguyen, Policy Associate, Basic Education for Adults | Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion | Accountability and Compliance
This interactive and thought-provoking session explores WA State’s equity agenda as a moral and economic imperative in serving our community and technical college students. It highlights the role of self-reflection and critical dialogue in developing an “equity lens” for examining practices, policies, and programming to help close the state’s educational equity gap, particularly within the Guided Pathways initiative.
About our Keynote, Ha Nguyen:
For the last 15+ years, Ha Nguyen has been serving WA State’s community and technical college students within the areas of basic skills, student services, workforce education, and general transfer. Her professional roles have emphasized the critical need for developing pathways to a credential/degree, and the importance of increased support for underserved, low-income, students of color in reaching the “Tipping Point” and beyond – practices that translate into equity in higher education. In her current position as a Policy Associate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at SBCTC, Ha is involved in critical change efforts to help advance the equity agenda for basic skills departments and broader campus groups across the state system. In addition, she co-chairs SBCTC’s inaugural DEI committee and is a member of the agency’s National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity team.
