Chrome Vox does a great job and is simple to turn on and off.
Using Google Chrome Vox requires some set up and will require the use of the Google Chrome browser when viewing the Web View of the the book. If you do not currently use Chrome as your browser you will need to download it, which can be done easily at google.com/chrome. When you have Chrome, follow the following steps to get the Chrome Vox extension:
1. Using the Google Chrome web browser, go to chromevox.com
2. Click the box labeled "Install Chrome Vox"
3. When the small window opens at the center of the screen, click the blue box at its upper right corner that says "Free"
4. The extension will then be installed in your browser and is automatically turned on
To turn the voice over on and off, go to the settings menu (The three stacked, horizontal lines at chrome's top right corner will have the settings option in it) and then go to the Extensions tab. The extension can be turned on and off from this location and the voice used to read the material can also be changed from this location (The default voice for this reader is a strange choice but there are many very good options on the list to choose from).
When the extension is on, students will be able to have the section of the book they click on read to them while viewing the Web View version of the text. The web version of each book can be found by clicking on the cover of the book at https://www.openstax.org/subjects.
