Developmental Studies
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Developmental Studies Program is to be committed to enrolling students at their entering level of achievement, developing their skills, and helping them to be successful in a curriculum program of their choice. Student will use and improve their reading, writing and critical thinking skills that will be used through all facets of their life. The program provides quality education through a variety of learning modes (i.e., linked, coordinated studies, Distance Learning, Reading Lab, CAL lab, Writing Center, Tutoring Center) that makes instruction widely available to diverse community needs.
PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLOs)
Upon completion of the Developmental Studies Program, students will:
- Use reading and writing processes and adjust them as necessary (COK, COM, CRT, IIT).
- Acquire, develop, and exchange knowledge through reading and writing (COK, COM, CRT).
- Understand, interpret, analyze, and compose written documents (COK, COM, CRT).
- Read and write to understand one’s own and others’ perspectives and cultural contexts (COK, COM, LWC, RES).
- Apply student success strategies (COK).
