Early Childhood Education (ECE)
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Paraeducator program is to recruit, train and retain students within the program and provide support that ensures successful completion of the program thereby providing highly qualified individuals to work in Early Childhood settings.
PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLOs)
Upon successful completion of the Early Childhood Education Certificate or Associates Degree in Applied Sciences in Early Childhood Education, students will:
- Use their understanding of young children’s characteristics and needs, and of multiple interacting influences on children’s development and learning, to create environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for each child. (COM, CRT, IIT, LWC).
- Create respectful, reciprocal relationships that support and empower families, and to involve all families in their children’s development and learning. (LWC, RES).
- Use systematic observations, documentation, and other effective assessment strategies in a responsible way, in partnership with families and other professionals, to positively influence the development of every child. (COM, CRT, IIT, LWC, RES).
- Implement a wide array of developmentally appropriate approaches, instructional strategies, and tools to connect with children and families and positively influence each child’s development and learning. (COM, CRT, IIT, LWC).
- Use their own knowledge and other resources to design, implement, and evaluate meaningful, challenging curriculum that promotes comprehensive developmental and learning outcomes for every young child. (COM, CRT, IIT, LWC).
- Use ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to early childhood practice; demonstrate knowledgeable, reflective and critical perspectives on their work and are informed advocates for sound practices and policies. (COK, COM, CRT, LWC, RES).
