English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
MISSION STATEMENT
The English for Academic Purposes Department provides an accessible and comprehensive English language and academic skills program that creates academic and sociocultural language learning, encourages cooperation among students of varying backgrounds, fosters integration of students into the local community and culture, encourages involvement in the campus and wider communities, and brings a global perspective to the college community.
PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLOs)
Upon successful completion of the Five Levels of English for Academic Purposes, students will:
- Speak clearly and fluently enough for an English speaker to understand and interpret intent without difficulty (COM).
- Understand spoken English well enough to participate fully and effectively in academic and personal oral communication (COM).
- Write proficiently in both academic and non-academic modes (COM, CRT).
- Read with understanding a variety of academic and other tests (COM, CRT).
- Appropriately and responsibly use the technology necessary to function fully as a member of the academic and wider community (IIT, RES).
- Interact cooperatively with individuals of diverse backgrounds in all of the above areas (LWC, RES).
