MISSION STATEMENT (Revised 2014)

The mission of the Student Learning Center Program is to help students improve their study skills and learning strategies to become successful learners. The Student Learning Center Program provides individualized and integrated academic support as well as information resources and materials through peer tutoring, technology assisted learning, group/collaborative opportunities, course-work, and workshops.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLOs)

Upon consistent utilization of the learning support services in the 1) Business Education Center [BEC], 2) Computer Assisted Learning Lab [CAL Lab], 3) Math Advising Resource Center [MARC], 4) Reading & Study Skills Center, 5) Supplemental Instruction [SI] and/or 6) Writing & Tutoring Center [WTC], students will:

Implement increasing knowledge and skills (reading, writing, math, listening, speaking, study skills, etc.) to successfully complete current and subsequent course work (COM, RES).
Report increased satisfaction with their experience at Tacoma Community College.
Upon successful completion of ITPC training, student tutors will confidently and competently: Recognize and apply appropriate study skill and/or tutoring strategies (CRT).
Upon successful completion of ITPC training, student tutors will confidently and competently: Adapt strategies to fit different learning challenges (COM, CRT, LWC, RES).
