Purpose

The purpose of our work for the next two weeks is to explore literature from people who are or have experienced incarceration, to explore some cultural and historical context that may deepen our understanding, and to acknowledge how our own cultural identities enrich and/or limit our understanding of these voices.

Outcomes

By the end of Modules 3 and 4, you will be able to...

Discuss poetry, prose and non-fiction writing by people experiencing incarceration,
Identify historical and statistical facts related to incarceration within the United States,
Examine how your own cultural identities enrich and/or limit your understanding of literature of people experiencing incarceration.

To ensure you don't lose work, it is recommended that you work offline using a word processing application such as Microsoft Word and then copy/paste your post into the course's discussion forum.
On Monday, read over all of the assignments and readings that will be due this week. Carve out time and space to complete them in a way that makes sense for you and allows you to do good work. Make sure you keep track of deadlines.
