1. Corporate Compliance refers to the adherence to laws and regulations passed by official regulating bodies as well as general principles of ethical conduct.

   In healthcare, this means meeting the statutory and regulatory requirements set out for particular activities in the healthcare setting.  Healthcare organizations will create compliance programs which is an internal set of policies, processes, and procedures that ensure the organization is acting ethically and lawfully.  These efforts are designed to establish hospital culture which promotes prevention, detection, and resolution of activities which are considered non-compliant or unethical.

   In order to establish such compliance programs, healthcare organizations will refer to regulatory guidance - namely the OIG and federal register, to ensure that the elements of their program aligns with expected standards.

   There are Seven (7) Steps (elements) of an Effective Compliance Program.  These are provided in the text - but this is just a reinforcement of the version provided by the OIG in the Federal Register.

• Answer to each Question = 1 pt per question - a total of 12 pts
• Assignment total = 42 points

Reductions

• Incorrect Element of Compliance plan with definition of what the element includes - there are 7 = -1 per incorrect response
• Not providing 2 details per element from the federal register and/or providing a limited description for the detail - not elaborating on the details being provided (i.e. what is included, how work is conducted, etc) = up to -2 per response.
• Not formatting the document as instructed = up to -4
• Not having a minimum of 250 words in the reflective summary section = -2
• Incorrect naming convention for uploaded file = -2 points
