Purpose
The idea of a Medical Records department has changed dramatically with the advent of the electronic health record. Some departments transitioned to the term "Health Information Management" but with continued advances in telehealth and remote technologies spurred by the pandemic, the traditional department is forever changed. Many of the employees that used to occupy cubicles are working remotely or are consolidated at a business park separate from the hospital and they may even be responsible for more than one facility. Here is a tour made a few years ago walking you through what the HIM department used to look like. Current practices have altered this so be prepared for it to appear more fragmented in reality.
Instructions
Review the Sinclair Community College virtual tour of a HIM department video below. Remember that HIM simply means Health Information Management and that relates to dealing with all of the medical systems that store information in a facility. It is roughly 45 minutes long. Once you have watched it, complete the 10 short-answer questions below.
You should also review the video from Mary Greeley Medical Center giving a short 3-min tour of their HIM Department as well. This is newer but this assessment is focused entirely on the Sinclair CC tour.
