It is important to talk to your teachers. In the American education system, it is the student's responsibility to ask for help when they don't understand. Teachers want to help you succeed, so it is important for students to communicate their needs.
You should communicate with your teacher when:
- You have a question about your homework and grades.
- You need to ask for help when you don't understand.
- When you or your child will be absent.
- You want to get study tips.
- You want to find out how you or your child can improve.
- You want to learn more about the American education system.
There are many ways to communicate with your teacher. You can decide which is the best way depending on the information you need to communicate.
Ways to communicate with your teacher include:
- Asking questions in class.
- Coming early or staying late to discuss any issues.
- Calling their office phone number (and leaving a message if they are not available).
- Making an appointment to meet during their office hours.
If you need to discuss a private matter with the teacher, schedule an appointment to talk with them before or after class or during their office hours.
