Supplemental Instruction - Fall 2018
Hello and welcome everyone:
This is the New Canvas page for the SI program. This Syllabus will inform you of what is expected of you as an SI leader in regards the to use of canvas, weekly paperwork, and interaction with your fellow SI leaders. It will also provide you with the information you need to navigate the course.
Navigating The Canvas Page:
For our purposes, we will be using canvas to track paperwork, to facilitate communication between SI leaders, and to archive team meeting information. The best way to experience the course is to navigate it from the Modules page, which is also the courses home page. Each module will have the required paperwork and discussions for that week, and it will also have content pages that will inform you of other activities going on in the program. These can range from One-on-ones, and Team meeting recaps to fun events we plan to do as a program. If you have any other questions on how to navigate canvas, please consult the Week 0 navigating canvas module, or speak with a mentor or fellow SI leader.
Weekly Paperwork:
Canvas will be the new place where you submit all of your weekly paperwork except your session sign-in sheet.
Planning Sheets:
For planning sheets, download the word doc. under files and weekly paperwork linked here. You can also get there by clicking the link that is a part of every planning sheet submission window. Fill it in as you would a paper form and submit the electronic file in the canvas submission window. Note: There is only one submission window per week, so new SI leaders you will have to attach one file per session to one submission window, which is up to three file submissions. When submitting the file, please follow this format: YourName_PlanningSheet Week 1a. For multiple submissions, please follow the Week 1a,1b, 1c format. You should receive feedback on your session plan from your mentor in 48hrs.
Data Logs:
For data logs, every week you are expected to complete a quick survey of what you did in class. Please make sure that the percentages for question 3 add of to 100% as an error there disrupts our data.
We will handle all other weekly paperwork in a hard copy format.
Canvas Discussion Boards:
Throughout the quarter there will be some of discussion boards. These are a place where you can communicate with the SI group at large. Since we have a larger Cohort this Quarter, there will be many of you who may not see each other; these discussion boards are a way to alleviate this deficit of interaction.
Mandatory Discussions:
Currently, the only mandatory discussion is the Week 9 Best Session Plan discussion everyone in the program will have to post their best session plan and provide feedback for at least two fellow SI leaders.
Non-Mandatory Discussions;
As of right now, no other discussion boards are mandatory, but if you chose to use the discussion boards, please be respectful of others, and check them often.
Team Meeting Pages
The purpose of the Team meeting pages is to compile the team meeting materials and handouts, so that they may serve as a refresher later in the quarter. Also, if you are in the unfortunate situation of missing a team meeting or can't make one at all these pages will serve as your supplements.
Note: If you miss a meeting, you should schedule an appointment with your mentor. Before this appointment you should review these pages.
Other Content Pages
All other content pages serve as a reminder of quarterly paperwork. For example, the One-on-one content page will not only remind you of when One-on-ones occur, they will also provide you with the necessary information to ensure that the one-on-one is effective and efficient. This is the same for all other content pages.
