Group Tool for Analysis-Check in and ideas 1

This is the place your group will be posting its thoughts on the argument analysis tool you are working on.  

The tool is an ongoing assignment, so you will be adding to and refining the tool as you go along this quarter.  Submitting the ideas will give you a chance to get some early feedback.  As you know, I will eventually be looking at your personal contributions and the overall quality and utility of the tool.

Each individual will need to be mentioned on any group submissions. 

To successfully complete this assignment about your group's ideas for the final tool, you will need to actually go to your group pages, look at who has contributed, then write a summary.  You will need to honestly summarize what your group has been thinking about so far.  It is best to be honest and detailed, rather than to ignore the assignment because the group has not been working together and than to fabricate activities that have not taken place.  This check-in is an individual assignment; do not rely on a single person from the group to post for the group.

"Why are we doing this?"

Good question.  This check in assignment, which is one of several throughout the quarter, is a chance to focus and reflect on what you are doing.  It is a place to bring together your thoughts about the project and to reconnect with your group members.  This assignment is also a place for each individual to check understanding of the assignment itself and the interpretations of his or her own group members.  (It often happens that differences in understanding within a group only surface when everyone summarizes what is going on.)

In the world of argument and persuasion, summary plays a key role--both in fully articulating your own thesis and in clearly representing what the opposition is trying to say.
