Because of COVID-19, this class, and almost all TCC classes, are online. I know that you may be anxious, especially if being in an online class is new for you. In addition, I recognize that we are all going through a challenging time. Like many of you, I often find myself confused, overwhelmed, tired, sad, or angry. I get that this is tough. Please know that we'll work together to make sure all students have the support they need to learn and thrive.

This is our Canvas Home Page. It's what most of you will see when you enter our Canvas course. Please click on "Modules" on the left side of this page to move through each week's activities. You'll see Models for each week of the quarter.

Each week, you'll have readings or videos to watch and a discussion post, quiz, and writing assignment to complete. Make sure to keep track of deadlines -- They'll be the same every week: Wednesday discussion posts, Friday replies to classmates' discussion posts, Saturday quiz, Sunday writing assignment. You are welcome to work ahead!

There is no required textbook for this class. I will post readings and videos, and students will sometimes contribute their own resources!

Welcome to English&101! I’m really looking forward to our class and the chance to get to know you a bit this quarter. This class is a Learning Community with Political Science&202 (American Government) taught by Professor Steve Sandweiss. That means the research, reading, writing, and discussing that you do in our writing class will be related to what you are learning in political science about our system of government, social movements, and the 2020 presidential election. Steve and I are pretty different in the way we teach, but in both classes, we’ll be especially interested in exploring how social movements, such as Black Lives Matter, impact public policy. Guest speakers in our class will include local activists who will challenge and enrich your understanding of topics covered in political science. Though we know this is an overwhelming and difficult time, Steve and I hope that our Learning Community offers an opportunity to learn about and discuss the things that are swirling around us.

To help you to demonstrate your best work, you should…

To ensure you don't lose work, work offline using a word processing application such as Microsoft Word and then copy/paste your post into the course's discussion forums,
Feel free to ask questions when things aren't clear to you. We'll be doing practice discussions, quizzes and assignments during the first week of class so that all students can get comfortable with Canvas and ready to work online this quarter!
